Aquatic Critters
Turtles

Turtles, another reptile, are often found along the water's edge basking in the sun on logs and stones. If interrupted, they will quickly disappear into the water. Here are two common painted turtles. Painted Turtles The one with the green shell is an adult and the black shelled turtle with the red edges is the youngling. They have bright red and yellow markings on their head, limbs and tail. Painted turtles are omnivorous. They eat algae and other aquatic plants, carrion (dead animals), and live animals like crayfish, fish, snails and insects.
